Sorry, this is going to be a rant

But fucking FUCK

I am located in Los Angeles, specifically, in The Valley, on the north side of the Santa Monica Mountains.

About an hour south of me, the Pacific Palisades (around 3,00 acres of it, might I add) are on fucking fire! The entire neighborhood has been on fire ALMOST THE ENTIRE DAY. THE WINDS ARE TOO STRONG TO DROP WATER AND FIRE RETARDANT.

Everything between the Palisades and Malibu are in trouble.

I have friends in Brentwood, at UCLA, and in Manhattan Beach who can SEE THE FIRE FROM THEIR DWELLINGS.

My friend in Inglewood LOST POWER DUE TO THE SEVERE WIND.

I’ve also been getting severe winds in my location.

Hell, even my lights flickered for a moment.

Santa Monica is under an evacuation order.

ON TOP OF THAT ALTADENA IS ALSO ON FIRE AND THE WINDS ARE BLOWING THAT FIRE TOWARDS PASADENA.

I have family friends in Pasadena and they are currently driving their way over here to stay with me. I’m in the middle of setting up air mattresses.

It’s been a long, long while since LA has had a fire crisis, I guess the Universe just decided to throw another one at us.

The reaction I'm seeing to the LA fires on social media is DISGUSTING, have some of you no compassion?

Not everybody who lives in LA is rich or a celebrity or a CEO. We're people of all different backgrounds and incomes, and to categorize one of the country's biggest populations under "rich" removes all of that

Furthermore, hi, PEOPLE'S HOUSES ARE BURNING DOWN. DO YOU GET THAT?? THEIR HOMES ARE BURNING DOWN

It's not about whether they have the money to immediately make a new one (remember that majority of people in LA county do not), it's about the fact that their entire livelihoods are disappearing right before their eyes and they can't do anything about it. Those memories are gone in an instant

Even if someone isn't being directly affected, they feel it in other ways. The air quality is extremely bad, everyone is smelling the smoke and seeing the flames

To generalize all of this and say "well only the rich are affected" and you having no sympathy whatsoever for that is disgusting. Shame on you

James Woods is a multi-millionaire with plenty of insurance. He never helped any of the other victims of wildfires but now is upset. He hates everyone and everything since he became a Trump cultist. His money could have helped so many but instead he spent his time on Twitter comparing black people to apes and demanding Dr Fauci be executed. F—k him!

And while we're comparing this:

There is no town or city in the USA that is only Mansions and Rich People. Even Pacific Palisades (which honestly I've never been through and maybe heard of in passing before these fires) have lower and low income areas. Have buildings where people work. Have restaurants and grocery stores. Schools where teachers work. Fire isn't a moral avenger. It's just fire. It consumes anything it can. So this fire is hurting A LOT of people, not just rich people. You're just hearing about the rich people more b/c they already have a platform.

LA County is really really big. The Palisades fire is one of (last I checked) four fires going on. Santa Ana winds (ever seen The Holiday? Those winds, they come and go and sometimes change directions) make fire season so much more precarious and dangerous. Lack of rain this winter and an unwillingness to listen to indigenous experts on land care makes those fires potentially devastating, because our cities butt up against wildlife areas, either preserves, parks or just wide swaths of land. Our fire department (that is currently being supplemented by prison volunteer labor) is struggling to fight these. If LA city is lucky, they can get help in, but it's not going to be like that show 911 or 911 Lone Star where the cavalry drives in. It's bureaucratic, it's slow, and it's only if others are able to.

ALSO, just remembered, a few months ago State Farm canceled a ton of insurance accounts in the area, because the fire hazard was rising. So people who had been paying into the system, for months or for years, who were trying to be responsible and invest in their future, got the rug ripped out from under them.

I remember people on tumblr scolding other users for mocking London citizens for complaining about the heat wave years ago. People were dying, even though the temperatures weren't "that bad". London infrastructure wasn't meant to help moderate heat, it was meant to keep heat in, and air conditioning was hard to get if it was even available. That awful freeze Texas had a few years ago, I saw people shut down others making fun of desperate families who died because of smoke inhalation or chemical inhalation because they were burning fires inside their house, sometimes their furniture, they were so desperate for heat. The people who were dying were more likely to be poor and/or minorities, regardless of how they voted.

So for the love of all, cut that out. Stop saying "Burn the Rich" or that Pacific Palisades got what was coming to them. They absolutely didn't. Two of my husbands co-workers lost everything, one came close. They're not well off, they just got lucky in being able to buy a house there, or they're a two income family so they can afford the HCOL and wanted to live closer to the ocean or have better schools for their children. You're going to say they deserved it? Shut up, or start helping.

My cousin's fire team is working the Palisade Fire. If you could keep them in your thoughts & prayers... For safety. For strength. I would greatly appreciate it. The firefighters are exhausted, undermanned and have little water. None in some areas.

Prayers. Well wishes. Hope... Whatever you believe in. I believe in being the best possible human I can be. My heart hurts for the people in California right now & the emergency personnel battling these fires.
